Costumes without Drama is a small business providing a comprehensive costuming experience for teachers. Make an appointment to come out and browse through in excess of 8000 costume items and discuss your specific needs. You will be surprised at how easy the process can be. Look out for new pictures of costumes on the following web pages. New costumes are being added to the inventory all the time. If you cannot find exactly what you are after, send and email, or phone us. We are here to help you.

Most available costumes are not only designed by Costumes without Drama, but made locally.

How to order costumes

Look for pictures or listings of costumes
Place order by phone or email supplying us with basic measurements, (height and waist). We can come out and measure your children, and sit down to discuss your requirements if you are in the Melbourne or Greater Melbourne area. An additional fee is charged for the measuring service.
Costumes arrive two weeks prior to performance (when possible).
Substitutions can usually be arranged if sufficient time is available.
Costumes may be collected, sent by courier, Australia Post or by other arrangement.

Special orders

Sometimes we do not have a particular costume, or the size is not available, every effort will be made to provide you with a costume to meet your particular requirements. If hire costumes are made to order, a small additional hire charge may apply.

Costume Delivery

Costumes arrive folded and labeled in bags within boxes.
A fully detailed inventory is provided (which includes room for you to write the student's names against costumes, or your own notes).
To return costumes, simply check items off the list and return using your own courier, Australia Post or as per arrangement. No laundering required. That is our job!
We need to know:
- Characters required
- Approximate sizes for main characters including height and waist measurements.
  Many of the costumes are 'multi fit' and cut generously to accommodate most children within an age range.
We rely on elastic waists and easily worn costumes so the children do not require much assistance with dressing.
Of course, if this is the direction you choose to go in please let us know at the earliest time possible to ensure the availability of the costumes. A 25% deposit at the time of booking will be required.

Price

Prices vary depending on the level of costume hire required.

Private hire - $40 with a $60 deposit.

Standard school hire - Chorus characters between $12 and $18, main characters between $15 - $30 each. This price is for the costume, not the number of items included for that costume. For example most animals cost $15 each. This costume generally includes the hood, jumpsuit and tail. Sometimes includes spats for over feet and mittens for hands, for an extra fee.

These prices will vary depending on the number of costumes required in total, whether costumes need to be made up and other variables. Individual items, such as sets of trousers only, or shirts or hats only are charged at a per item price.

Full service costume hire, including measuring students delivery and fitting/dress reheasal during school hours is available within the Melbourne metropolitan area. Please enquire about this service. All staff have current 'Working with Children' cards.

Costume Packages

Full cast sets are available for all Bushfire Press productions and assorted other plays.
Included: all main characters and themes of assorted items to tie together 'chorus' groups.
For example the package for 'Pirates of Penzance' would include complete costumes for all the main characters: Major-General Stanley, The Pirate King, Samuel, Frederic, Pirate 1, Pirate 2, Sergeant of Police, Mabel, Edith, Kate and Isable, Ruth a limited number of accessories like swords, cutlasses etc are available; bandannas, boleros, scruffy shirts and pants for the pirates. Police uniforms for the Troupe of Police, and chorus of 'sisters'. We understand that there are often variations with numbers and main characters all this is taken into account when we discuss your requirements.

Tracey also designs and makes costumes for performers or for promotional purposes.
